SAGE X is a Hit!

posted Nov 28, 2017, 3:24 PM by Bob H

Here is an unsolicited comment made by one of our recent clients!

Wow, Great Fly Rod. I really like the new X action. Sage makes a great blank but you make it a precision instrument. The way the ferules fit and the finish is perfect. The guides are absolutely perfect and the handle is exquisite. The full wells handle fits my hand beautifully. I loaded a SA Shark Wave GPX on to a Nautilus FWX 5/6 and the line flew effortlessly to 60'. I have a few factory made Sage Ones and my biggest complaint is the small guides. SA GPX 8wt line will not slide through my 8wt Sage One guides. The biggest opposition to custom rods that I hear is, if you break it the factory won't fix it. First of all I have never broken a fly rod. A lot of anglers have a myriad of extenuating circumstances that lead to the damaging of a fly rod. On several trips every summer we fish from canoes. Hoping in and out of the canoe all day with the rods bungied to the seats or lining the boat down rapids or up and down the river bank we have never damaged a rod. Thanks so much, I love the rod. "Made in USA" Right on Brother. God Bless, travel safe and good luck. Rich.

A New Trade-in, Trade up program!

posted Oct 28, 2016, 3:21 PM by Bob H

Lord of the Streams is happy to announce its new "Trade-in, Trade-UP" program.  If you have a rod that you are no longer using and want a new one, just give us a call and we will let you know what we will give you on your trade-in toward any rod that we sell.  Whether you want a new SAGE, LOOP, Redington, etc. rod, we can make your new purchase more affordable.  We won't accept all rods on trade.  They must still be in usable condition.  We prefer rods from reputable manufacturers like SAGE, R.L. Winston, G. Loomis, LOOP, and a few others.  However, if the rod is still usable and you bought it from some discount store, we may still be able to give you some credit toward a new rod.  If you have questions, please let us know.  You can call us at 509 998-2321 or you may email us at LordoftheStreams@centurytel.net.

SNAKE BRAND snake guides are now used exclusively by Lord of the Streams!

posted Sep 24, 2016, 6:09 PM by Bob H

We are very happy to announce that SNAKE BRAND snake guides are now the only snake guides that Lord of the Streams will use on all of our custom rods.  In our opinion, SNAKE BRAND snake guides are the best snake guides made anywhere.  They cost more but we only want to use the best on our custom rods.  Unlike most snake guides that are made in the Orient, SNAKE BRAND guides are made exclusively in the United States in Washington State.  Their quality is unsurpassed in the industry.  The are also the only snake guides made with concave feet that won't scratch your rod and will allow the guides to sit closer to the rod blank.  Instead of being shaped like a tear drop, they are round when you look through the guides.  This allows the line to shoot more easily.  These guides have been available as an upgrade at an extra charge on our rods in the past.  They will now come standard on all of our rods!  When you choose Lord of the Streams, we want you to know that you are getting the best!

The SAGE X fly rod has replaced the SAGE ONE

posted Oct 2, 2014, 12:03 PM by Bob H   [ updated Dec 29, 2017, 7:49 PM ]

The venerable SAGE ONE was discontinued by SAGE on July 15, 2016.

There was nothing wrong with the SAGE ONE, as there was nothing wrong with the Z-Axis or the XP before it.  SAGE simply works on new designs and when they think they have something better, they introduce it.  This time it is the SAGE X.  The X stands for the 10th major product release in a premium rod by SAGE.  We have made many custom SAGE X rods and like them a great deal.   I like this rod a great deal and can sell you a custom or a factory rod in any weight made.  Please call for pricing and to place an order.

SAGE X-One of the best Fast Action rods we have used.

posted Nov 6, 2013, 12:38 PM by Bob H   [ updated Feb 18, 2017, 6:37 PM ]

If you like a fast action rod that throws incredibly tight loops, the new SAGE X is one of the best we have ever used.  We can feel it load and it allows us to throw some of our tightest loops ever.  This is not a rod that you want to use when you are looking for a really delicate presentation or when you are throwing a hopper-dropper or double nymph rig.  However it is one that may be your go-to rod when the wind is howling or when you are wading the flats, or when one cast to a distant fish is all you get. Tight loops, big fly, streamers, very high line speed with feel, this rod does these things very well.

You can have it in a SAGE factory made configuration or in a Lord of the Streams custom. Call us for pricing.

Redesigned for 2018! LOOP OPTI STREAM 5 wt. rod

posted Apr 27, 2013, 10:13 PM by Bob H   [ updated Dec 29, 2017, 7:47 PM ]

This rod has been redesigned for the 2018 season.  We do  not know if it will be renamed or not. The newly designed model of this rod is scheduled to arrive in March of 2018.

Those of you who are knowledgeable about the world of fly fishing know the name of George Anderson of Yellowstone Anglers.  George has helped design some of the best rods in the world. Each year, George has a 5 weight competition and rates the rods in that competition.  He calls it his "Shoot-Out."    He does not rate all of the best rods in the world but chooses a wide selection to test.  For the past three years, he choose the LOOP OPTI STREAM rod to test.  This LOOP OPTI STREAM rod is not the best rod that LOOP makes but it may very well be the best rod for the money that LOOP makes.  The OPTI STREAM 5 weight came in second out of all of the 5 wt. rods in  the "Shoot Out" in 2013.    It beat every SAGE, Winston, Orvis, Hardy and many others.  It has been in the top 3 rods for three consecutive years!

While we agree that the Loop OPTI STREAM is one of the finest rods in the world.  It did very well considering it is not even the top of the line in the LOOP rod line up!  It is the 2nd best rod that LOOP makes.  The LOOP CROSS S1 holds that distinction.  By the way, the LOOP OPTI STREAM costs $200- $275 less than most of the rods that it beat in the competition!

When we evaluate a fly rod, we use all of the criteria that George uses but we add a few criteria like durability, feel, and the ability to effectively fight and land fish once they are hooked.  Nothing does this better than the LOOP CROSS S1 in our opinion.   If you want a suberb, "traditionally made" graphite fly rod at a great price, buy the LOOP OPTI STREAM.  If you want the best fly rod made by LOOP, buy the LOOP CROSS S1 or the new LOOP CROSS SX!

Regardless of which LOOP rod you decide upon, Lord of the Streams is the place to buy the rod.  We are one of the top authorized LOOP dealers in the USA

The Proposed Internet Sales Tax may put us out of business or stop our sales to the USA

posted Apr 22, 2013, 10:12 AM by Bob H   [ updated Nov 6, 2013, 12:44 PM ]

As a Lord of the Streams Client, we thought that you should know that Congress is now considering the adoption of an Internet Sales Tax that could result in Lord of the Streams ceasing the sales of any products in the United States and might very well put us out of business.

The reasons are simple to understand for everyone except politicians.

First, we are a small company.  If you are reading this, you know our products.  Our prices are very reasonable as you also know.  We have been able to keep our prices reasonable due to our business model that we have structured for low overhead costs.  We cannot afford to pay for high priced accountants or expensive computer programs or the people to run them in order to track sales tax rates throughout the USA and to then remit a portion of our hard earned money to all of the individual states.  We also cannot afford to be audited by 10,000 different taxing jurisdictions!  Even if we could afford to do so, we would not.  We would rather go out of business than subsidize these jurisdictions with our hard earned money. This Country was founded on principles that included "NO TAXATION Without REPRESENTATION.  Have you ever heard of any more blatant example of the violation of this Principle than the paying of taxes to 10,000 jurisdiction in which we do not reside?

Politicians say that the internet sales tax proposal is about fairness.  It is not.  It is only about growing government revenues and making tax collectors out of small businesses.

This is just another anti-business, anti-freedom proposal coming from the politicians.  These people are either complete idiots when it comes to understanding how the economy and business works, or they simply do not care who they put out of business.

The bottom line is this.  If you want to be able to do business with us and other businesses like us in the future, please email your Senators and Congressmen and tell them to vote against this proposal.

If you don't speak up,  custom rod makers and other small business will probably go under.  We have heard that the Congress is considering including an exemption for small businesses in the law.  That is not satisfactory.  No business should have to be a tax collector for any political subdivision in which they do not reside whether they are big or small.

If this simpleton law passes and we are forced to collect taxes for other states, our first step will be to refuse to sell any of our products to anyone living in the United States.  We have clients in 34 countries and will only sell products to the other 33.  Isn't it nice that the Congress wants to drive business out of the USA, again

All businesses have the opportunity to do business on the web.  Some have chosen not to.  We, who have chosen to do business on the web, should not be punished because some "brick and mortar" stores that don't do business on the web are no longer competitive.  That should be their problem, not ours.

Big Fish- What kind of rod to use?

posted Mar 28, 2013, 12:24 PM by Bob H   [ updated Dec 29, 2017, 12:19 PM ]

Do you want to actually hook and land big fish or do you simply want to cast for distance?

This may seem like a strange question to some but it really is not. Many fly fishers want a rod that allows them to make the longest cast possible.  If that is what you want, there are few rods that will beat the New SAGE METHOD or the old SAGE XP.  If you are in a location where you can use larger tippets,  It is fine to use really fast rods and they can be a lot of fun.  However, if you are after big, wise old fish that spook at 1, 2 , or 3X tippets and you need to use a 4X or 5X or smaller tippet and size 20 flies to entice the
m, we recommend that you forget ultra-fast, stiff rods because more often than you want to, you are going to break the fish off when it gets close to the net.  Now, if you don't mind repeated LDRs (long distance releases) then keep using really fast rods.

If you wish to be able to make long casts, generate plenty of line speed, and actually bring those big fish to the net, please consider the  LOOP CROSS S1.  The
LOOP CROSS S1 medium -fast rod was created by the people from Sweden that founded LOOP and who simply live to fly fish.  (Thank you Christer and Tomas.)  These are true fly fishermen that design "Fly Rods for landing fish."

The proof is in the performance.  In the Spring of 2012, took a trip to the North Platte (Miracle Mile and Greys Reef) in Wyoming, the
Green River below Flaming Gorge in Utah, and the Beaverhead in Montana.  I landed a higher percentage of hooked "Big Fish" than I ever have with any other fly rod!  The weather was cold (down to 15 degrees with 40+ MPH winds).  The 6 weight CROSS S1 protected 5X tippets incredibly well.

Simply put.  In the graphite rods of today, we have not used any rod that outperforms the LOOP CROSS S1 with its wonderful nanotechnology.  It is stronger than any other graphite rod that I am aware of, 30% stronger than its closest competitor we have been told.  It generates wonderful line speed.  It recovers more quickly than any fly rod of its type that we have used and most importantly, it protects tippets when that big fish is hooked.  The pictures below were caught by the first custom LOOP CROSS S1 in the world.  I made it for myself.  (many others have been made and sold but this is #1).

I took eight 6-weight rods on the trip mentioned above, including the three rods that were previo
usly my favorite 6-weights (The SAGE Z-AXIS, the Winston BIIx, and the LOOP OPTI Stream.)  I started fishing with the Custom LOOP CROSS S1 and never felt the desire to use any of the other rods. All of the fish below, plus approximately 70 other fish, were caught on this trip with that one rod. Many of the fish were between 20 and 24".

I was delighted with the rod performance.  While we can no longer get the LOOP blanks, but you can own a factory rod in the same weight that I used for around $759 depending on the rod selected.  Call for an exact price and ask about any "In-Shop Specials."

LOOP CROSS S1 Blanks and Custom rod status

posted Mar 6, 2013, 1:56 PM by Bob H   [ updated Dec 29, 2017, 7:45 PM ]

LOOP is no longer replacing broken rod sections with plain blanks for custom rods.  They are instead replacing broken rod sections with factory made sections.  Therefore, the guide spacing may not be correct; the guides may not match and the thread colors will problably not match.  Therefore, we can no longer recommend that you choose a LOOP custom rod.   If you are looking for a LOOP, we recommend that you buy a factory made rod and we do sell them.  LOOP factory rods are quite good and we do use them ourselves.

If you would like us to build a custom rod for you we have SAGE,
Epic, and Winston blanks available for your consideration.  Please email for more information.  We ship to all states except Washington.

All LOOP factory rods are available at this time.
